Professor Austin Minnich becomes the newest member of the KNI faculty board.
Austin Minnich, Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Applied Physics, joins the KNI faculty board, which finalizes the latest iteration of the committee's membership. Last year, longtime faculty board member Harry A. Atwater stepped away from this position when he took on the role of Division Chair for Engineering and Applied Science.
Dr. Minnich's research seeks to answer fundamental questions in physics and cosmology that require precision in measurement at or beyond the standard limits imposed by quantum mechanics. His group’s overarching goal is to advance the science and technology of measurement that allows these questions to be answered. Their present research is divided into three thrusts: low noise transistor microwave amplifiers, transport and fluctuation phenomena in semiconductors, and quantum simulation.
Dr. Minnich joined Caltech as assistant professor in 2011. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from MIT, and his B.S. in Engineering Science from UC Berkeley.
