KNI Welcomes the 2026 SURF-the-WAVE Fellows

The KNI welcomes its eighth cohort of undergraduate research fellows to Caltech for the summer. KNI SURF-the-WAVE (STW) prize fellows participate in a 10-week immersive research experience where they pursue nanoscience-based projects in a research group. The STW program enables undergrads to investigate a research topic, guided by a faculty member and a graduate student or postdoctoc mentor.

This year's SURF-the-WAVE fellows will explore a wide scope of research, from superconducting microwave resonators to wearable sweat biosensors, carbon dioxide reduction, mid-IR gas sensing, and two-dimensional materials patterning.

In partnership with the office of Student-Faculty Programs at Caltech and its WAVE summer research program, KNI SURF-the-WAVE prize fellowships are awarded each year to competitive undergraduate students who have an interest in a nanoscience-related field of study. The KNI STW program provides its fellows with bonus opportunities to network and learn more about STEM careers, graduate school and professional development.
