Quantelix, a Caltech-based startup co-founded by professor Scott Cushing, is redefining biosensing diagnostic devices with quantum technology.
Quantelix's handheld sensor reads "fluorescence lifetime," a stable optical signature that resists the drift affecting many diagnostic tools, with laboratory-grade precision. At its core is a chip-scale quantum light source generating entangled photon pairs, replacing the bulky lasers such measurements once required.
The technology was partially developed at the KNI, where Cushing's group fabricated the on-chip entangled-photon sources, and his work was supported in part by his 2021 KNI-Wheatley Scholarship in Nanoscience.
Quantelix made its public launch on August 4, 2026. More information can be found at https://quantelix.ai
The KNI congratulates Scott and the Quantelix team on this exciting milestone!
